Tailboard vs Mitti.
Mitti, by SafetyCulture, calls itself the operations system for every site, shift and standard, and it is free for up to ten seats. Tailboard is the safety paperwork for a small contractor, finished when the crew signs. The question is whether you want a platform to build on, or a record that is done.
Different sizes of tool.
These are Mitti's own headings, from their home page. Inspections is one of them. For us the toolbox talk is the whole product, and the rest of the safety paperwork hangs off it.
What Mitti lists
AI Assistant, Inspections, AI Issue Capture, Training, Lone Worker, Task Management, Communications, Issue Reporting, Document Management, Analytics, 5 Star Benchmarking, Contractor Management, Sensors & IoT, Asset Maintenance, Investigations, Agents and Integrations. For manufacturing, facilities management, hospitality, construction and retail.
What Tailboard does
Toolbox talks in English and Spanish, signed on any phone and sealed when filed. Then the paperwork around them: job safety analyses, inspections, incidents and the injury log, corrective actions, equipment and pre-trips, documents, and the packet a general contractor asks for. For small contractors, and only them.
Side by side
Mitti's column comes from their own home and pricing pages, read in October 2026. Prices are before tax, as they list them.
| Mitti | Tailboard | |
|---|---|---|
| What it costs | Free for up to 10 seats. Premium $24 a seat a month billed yearly, or $29 monthly. Enterprise quoted | $29, $89 or $199 a month, on the page |
| How you start | "Start for free" | Card into Stripe, two minutes. Nothing charged for 14 days |
| Who is a seat | Everyone who uses it. The free plan stops at ten | Account holders only: 2, 6 or 15. The crew who sign are never a seat |
| Set-up | Build your own templates. Five active ones on the free plan, unlimited on Premium | Pick a topic and send the link |
| Where the talks come from | Templates and checklists you write. No toolbox talk library on the pages we read | A library written for the trades, English and Spanish side by side, plus your own on Company |
| Proving a record wasn't edited | Not described on the pages we read | Sealed when filed. Anyone can check the code, no account |
| AI | A photo or a voice note becomes an issue for review. Credits per seat per month, 300 on the free plan | None. A sealed record holds what a person said |
| Built for | Every industry, construction among them | Small contractors, and the GCs who ask them for paperwork |
Why small is the point.
SafetyCulture says 80,000 organizations and more than two million people use the platform. We're a small startup in Kennewick. Here's what that buys you.
You're running by Monday, not next quarter
There's no template to design and no forms to migrate. Pick a topic, send a link, and the first talk is signed and filed in five minutes.
The price is the price
$29, $89 or $199 a month for the company, on the page. Nobody on the crew is ever a seat, so the bill does not grow when the crew does.
Every record is sealed when it is filed
A talk, a JSA, an inspection or an incident gets a code when it closes. Anyone can check the code, with no account, and see that nothing was changed.
Your email reaches the people who wrote the code
There's no queue, and the reply usually comes the same day.
When Mitti is the better buy.
They're ahead of us in real ways. If any of these is you, go and talk to them.
You want it free for a while
Ten seats and five active templates cost nothing. If you are testing whether your crew will use any app at all, that is a fair place to find out.
You build your own forms
Any inspection you can think of, laid out the way you want it. Ours are the ones the standard asks for, with your own talks on Company and your own checklists on Fleet.
You run more than a construction crew
A restaurant, a plant and a store can all live in Mitti. Tailboard is for contractors and does not pretend otherwise.
You want the AI to do the typing
Snap a photo or leave a voice note and Mitti drafts the issue. We chose not to: what goes in a sealed record is what a person wrote.
And the obvious one.
SafetyCulture has been at this for years and says 80,000 organizations use it. We launched in September 2026. If you need certainty your safety software will still exist in five years, that's a real argument for them.
So we made sure you're never trapped
On Company and Fleet, every sealed record is emailed to whoever can read records the moment it is filed, so the proof lives in your inbox, not only on our servers. The seal code stays checkable by anyone, with no account. Cancel and you keep read access for 90 days.
And you can test it before you commit
Run a real meeting with a real crew in the first fourteen days (thirty on a yearly plan), then decide. You'll know inside a week whether it fits how you work.
Read a full talk before you decide.
