Tailboard vs Safesite.
Safesite is a free safety management app with a paid tier at $16 a member, and it covers inspections, talks, hazards and incidents in one place. Tailboard does that paperwork for a small contractor, with every record sealed when it is filed. The honest question is whether free matters more to you than the seal and a flat price.
Close cousins.
Of everything we compare ourselves with, Safesite is the nearest: a safety app for the field, not a project platform, with toolbox talks in it. The differences are in how it is paid for and what a record is afterwards.
What Safesite lists
Inspections and audits on any device, a library of safety meetings and toolbox talks with attendance tracked, incident reports, hazard management, safety observations, equipment tracking, weekly safety tasks, an offline mode, OSHA 300 recordkeeping, a Safesite Score, compliance reporting, and workers' compensation through Foresight. English and Spanish.
What Tailboard does
Toolbox talks in English and Spanish, signed on any phone and sealed when filed. Job safety analyses, inspections, incidents and the injury log, corrective actions, equipment and pre-trips, documents, and the packet a general contractor asks for. A meeting can be held with no signal and sent later.
Side by side
Safesite's column comes from their own home and pricing pages and their App Store listing, read in October 2026.
| Safesite | Tailboard | |
|---|---|---|
| What it costs | Free, with reporting limited to the last 30 days. Premium from $16 a member a month on a yearly plan | $29, $89 or $199 a month for the company, on the page |
| How you start | No credit card needed. A 30-day Premium trial | Card into Stripe, two minutes. Nothing charged for 14 days |
| Who is a seat | Unlimited members and guests on the free plan. Premium is priced per member | Account holders only: 2, 6 or 15. The crew who sign are never a seat |
| Where the talks come from | A library of meetings and toolbox talks, attendance and topics tracked | A library written for the trades, English and Spanish side by side, signed on any phone |
| Proving a record wasn't edited | Not described on the pages we read | Sealed when filed. Anyone can check the code, no account |
| No signal | An offline mode for its safety tasks | A meeting held on the foreman's phone and sent later. The rest needs service |
| A score | The Safesite Score, graded like a report card | None. We don't invent a number a GC or a carrier would have to take on trust |
| Insurance | Workers' compensation through Foresight, by way of your broker | The sealed insurance packet, for your own broker to read |
Why small is the point.
Safesite calls itself an award-winning solution for companies of all sizes and industries. We're a small startup in Kennewick, built for one size. Here's what that buys you.
You're running by Monday, not next quarter
There's no template to design and no forms to migrate. Pick a topic, send a link, and the first talk is signed and filed in five minutes.
The price is the price
$29, $89 or $199 a month for the company, on the page. Nobody on the crew is ever a seat, so the bill does not grow when the crew does.
Every record is sealed when it is filed
A talk, a JSA, an inspection or an incident gets a code when it closes. Anyone can check the code, with no account, and see that nothing was changed.
Your email reaches the people who wrote the code
There's no queue, and the reply usually comes the same day.
When Safesite is the better buy.
They're ahead of us in real ways. If any of these is you, go and talk to them.
Free is the budget
Unlimited members and guests for nothing, with the last 30 days of reporting. If the paperwork only has to exist, not be proved later, that is hard to argue with.
You work offline more than a meeting at a time
Their offline mode covers their safety tasks. Ours covers the meeting; a JSA or an inspection still needs a bar of signal.
You want a score and a benchmark
The Safesite Score gives a company a grade. We don't make one up, which also means we don't give you one.
You want your workers' comp tied to the app
Foresight writes the policy against Safesite data. Tailboard gives your broker the sealed packet and stays out of the insurance.
And the obvious one.
Safesite is rated 4.6 on the App Store from 65 ratings and says it has closed more than 21,000 hazards a year. We launched in September 2026. If you need certainty your safety software will still exist in five years, that's a real argument for them.
So we made sure you're never trapped
On Company and Fleet, every sealed record is emailed to whoever can read records the moment it is filed, so the proof lives in your inbox, not only on our servers. The seal code stays checkable by anyone, with no account. Cancel and you keep read access for 90 days.
And you can test it before you commit
Run a real meeting with a real crew in the first fourteen days (thirty on a yearly plan), then decide. You'll know inside a week whether it fits how you work.
Read a full talk before you decide.
