Tailboard vs Raken.
Raken runs your whole jobsite. Tailboard does one job and finishes it: the talk happens, the crew signs, and the record can be proved two years later. If the second one is your actual problem, you don't need the first.
Different sizes of tool.
These are Raken's nine areas, from their own feature list. Toolbox talks is one of them. For us it's the whole product.
Side by side
Raken's column comes from their own public pages. There is no price, because they don't publish one.
| Raken | Tailboard | |
|---|---|---|
| What it costs | Quote only | $29, $89 or $199, on the page |
| How you start | Book a demo | Card into Stripe, two minutes |
| What you pay for | Per user | Per account - crew who sign are free |
| Proving a record wasn't edited | Not described publicly | Sealed when filed. Anyone can check the code, no account |
| Signing | In the Raken app | Any phone, nothing to install |
| Certification tracking | Not part of toolbox talks | Expiration alerts on every tier. The matrix and register are on Fleet. |
| Talk library | 100+ | Over 120, English and Spanish |
| Everything else on a jobsite | Nine areas of it | Equipment, inspections and documents, on Fleet and Company. No daily reports, time cards, photos, RFIs or incidents |
Why small is the point.
Raken has around 154 employees and private equity backing. We're a small startup in Kennewick. Here's what that actually buys you.
Your email reaches the people who wrote the code
There's no queue and no tier-one script, and the reply usually comes the same day. Ask a 150-person company to change something and you're filing a feature request.
You can see the price before you talk to anyone
It's $29 to $199 a month, on the page - most start on Company at $89. There's no discovery call to find out whether this is $40 or $400 for eleven people.
Your crew never lands on the bill
Per-user pricing means every new hire costs more. We charge for the office and the foremen. Fifteen on site can run on two accounts.
Nothing to install, nothing to roll out
It's a link and a signature. There's no app on fifty phones, no onboarding project, and no training day.
When Raken is the better buy.
There are four cases. If one of them is you, go and talk to them.
You need daily reports
It's what they're built for, and we have none.
You want one app for everything
That means photos, time, incidents and integrations in the same app as the daily report. Four narrow tools are worse than one broad one.
You need a talk we haven't written
They have 100+ and we have over 120, but the overlap isn't total. If the odd one you need next Tuesday is on their list and not on ours, that's a real reason.
You have a safety director
Someone whose whole job is safety will use the depth. We're built for outfits where the owner does it between other work.
And the obvious one.
They've been going for over a decade with thousands of contractors on them. We launched in September 2026. If you need certainty that your safety software still exists in five years, that's a real argument for them.
So we made sure you're never trapped
On Company and Fleet, every sealed record is emailed to whoever can read records the moment it is filed, so the proof lives in your inbox, not only on our servers. The seal code stays checkable by anyone, with no account. Cancel and you keep read access for 90 days.
And you can test it before you commit
Run a real meeting with a real crew in the first fourteen days (thirty on a yearly plan), then decide. You'll know inside a week whether it fits how you work.
Read a full talk before you decide.
One of ours is on the home page, with nothing held back.
